Developers Use AI Every Day, but Do They Trust It? What 2026 Survey Data Shows

Published 6 October 2026

Do developers trust the AI tools they use every day? The 2026 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, which drew more than 30,000 people, suggests the answer is yes, but only with checks.

Among respondents who use AI coding assistants or agents, 73% use them daily. Yet 93% of all respondents said that trusting AI output requires source attribution, and developers said they care more about quality (75%) than cost (38%) when they shape prompts and pick models.

Where developers do not use AI is also telling. Only 20% use it to deploy, operate or troubleshoot production systems.

Security is one reason for caution. Veracode tested more than 100 large language models on 80 coding tasks and reported that 45% of test cases introduced vulnerabilities from the OWASP Top 10. Veracode sells security tools, so read this as vendor research. The study dates from July 2025, so newer models may do better, but Veracode also said that larger models did not perform significantly better than smaller ones on security.

This matters if you hire a development team or run software projects. AI can speed up routine coding, but the survey and the security research both point to the same need: human review, testing and security checks stay part of the process.

At Zamorins Solutions we build custom software for business.

What you can do this week

  • Ask your development team or vendor where AI tools are used on your project and who reviews the output.
  • Confirm that AI-written code goes through the same code review and security testing as any other code.
  • Ask for the source behind any AI-generated recommendation before acting on it.

Takeaway: AI tools are now a daily habit for most developers who use them, so keep review, testing and security checks firmly in your software process.
